Attention, “Star Wars” fans: Starting today, you’ll have the chance to win a trip to be in the newest installment of the blockbuster film franchise.
In a video that was shot on location in Abu Dhabi today, J.J. Abrams, who is directing “Star Wars: Episode VII,” announced “Star Wars”: Force for Change, a new initiative that he said was dedicated to finding solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems.
The first “Star Wars”: Force for Change campaign will raise funds and awareness for the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) Innovation Labs and its programs that benefit the world’s most vulnerable children.
To support the launch of “Star Wars”: Force for Change, Disney — which owns Lucasfilm, the company founded by George Lucas, the creator of the iconic film franchise– has committed $1 million, and fans can now contribute directly at Omaze.com/StarWarsfor a chance to appear in “Star Wars: Episode VII.”
There are various levels of contribution to the campaign. For each level, participants can receive a “Star Wars”-themed item.
The grand prize includes airfare and accommodations to London for one winner and a guest and behind-the-scenes access on the closed set of “Star Wars: Episode VII” as Abrams’ VIP guests. The winner will have the opportunity to meet members of the cast and will be transformed by the film’s makeup and costume teams into a “Star Wars” character and filmed for a scene in the movie.
For each $10 contribution made through the Omaze fundraising platform, eligible participants will be automatically entered for a chance to win. The campaign runs from 12:01 a.m. PT on May 21 until 11:59 p.m. PT on July 18.
