Wow, we’ve never seen anything quite this before! Reporters from WGNO-TV just happened to be on-site filming severe weather conditions when their crew’s camera caught this crazy sight. A Union Pacific train was creeping along at just 4 miles per hour around 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 27th, when gusting wind — yeah, just WIND — made easy work of knocking the iron beast right off the elevated tracks! Nearly a dozen shipping containers and some train cars came crashing down with a thunderous force and flashes of light! It seems no one would’ve seen that coming, as it isn’t like there was a hurricane or anything, and trains have probably passed over those elevated tracks in bad weather countless times.
The bizarre scene unfolded right behind a local business by the name of “Raising Cane” which is rather ironic, being that the weather sure was raising some that day alright. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the Jefferson Parish derailment, and no hazardous materials were onboard but, we have to wonder if the sudden sight of that train descending might’ve caused some pants to be majorly, ummm…soiled…so might need to call HAZMAT yet, LOL!
